Weekly OSRS Recap: New Bosses, Leagues, Game-Changing Items, and Updates
Nov-14-2024 PSTWelcome to another exciting OSRS update breakdown! The Old School RS team has kept us on our toes with some incredible news this week, covering everything from a brand-new duo boss, powerful new items, and spell-changing staffs to an updated Guardians of the Rift minigame. But before we jump into all the game-changing additions, let’s talk about the misadventures that have players laughing, crying, and holding onto their items for dear life.
In today’s recap, we’ll dive into the big announcements and cover some unexpected bugs that managed to sneak in, a brand new Leagues update that’s set to shake things up, and the intriguing mechanics behind the newly introduced bosses. So grab your favorite snack, sit back, and let’s explore what happened this week in OSRS!
The New Duo Boss: Royal Titans and Elemental Spell-Switching Staff
One of the most anticipated updates from this week’s announcement is the introduction of a new duo boss: Royal Titans, Eldri and Brander. These two will challenge players like never before, combining mechanics that require tactical teamwork, skill, and quick reflexes. Each titan has unique abilities and elemental weaknesses, and defeating them grants a chance to earn powerful, game-changing loot.
The most notable of these rewards is the Twin Flame Staff—an elemental staff capable of automatically switching between elemental spells based on the opponent’s weakness. This staff opens new strategic options in midgame bossing and PvM (Player vs. Monster) encounters. With its automatic spell-switching, it’s bound to make life easier for players by eliminating manual spell selection. The Twin Flame Staff requires 60 Magic to wield, situating it between the Trident of the Swamp and the Tumeken’s Shadow in terms of DPS (damage per second). Players looking to take advantage of elemental weaknesses in OSRS bosses can now incorporate the staff’s unique power to their benefit.
New Prayers: Mystic Vigor and Deadeye
Alongside the Twin Flame Staff, new prayers are set to enter the game as rewards from the Royal Titans. These prayers function similarly to existing high-tier options like Rigour and Augury but are designed for mid-level players. Mystic Vigor (Magic-boosting) and Deadeye (Ranged-boosting) will enhance players’ accuracy, strength, and defense within their respective combat styles.
Interestingly, these new prayers have no defense requirements, making them accessible to pure accounts and certain account builds that often miss out on high-tier prayers due to defense restrictions. Players can acquire the new prayers by defeating Eldri and Brander, with each titan dropping a different half of the staff as well as its respective prayer scroll. As these rewards are untradeable, midgame players will need to face the bosses to unlock the prayers themselves.
Leagues 5: Raging Echoes – The Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has also unveiled a roadmap for Leagues 5, titled Raging Echoes, which is set to begin on November 27 and run until December 11. A series of reveals for the league will lead up to the launch, keeping players engaged with weekly updates on the upcoming mechanics and relics.
The first reveal this week was the Tier One Relics, which include resource-related perks. Players can expect relics that enhance mining with auto-smelting, improve woodcutting with automatic fletching and firemaking, and make fishing and hunting more efficient with features like auto-cooking and never-failing traps. The standout, however, is the Golden God Relic, which boasts some of the most unique perks OSRS has seen in Leagues so far:
A 15% boost in alchemized gold
A 65% chance to save the item while alching
Automatic alching with each successful cast
The Golden God Relic also allows players to convert 20,000 OSRS gold into Prayer XP, equivalent to a dragon bone. Additionally, it grants the ability to purchase noted items from shops, making it one of the most versatile relics in Leagues to date. Jagex’s Leagues roadmap promises even more exciting relics and features, so players should keep an eye out as we approach the November 27th release.
Guardians of the Rift Rework
Players looking for an efficient way to train Runecrafting will appreciate the Guardians of the Rift rework. Changes to the minigame now allow players to search the Rift Guardian for up to five loot rolls at a time, cutting down on the tedious one-at-a-time reward collection. For a small investment of 25 Abyssal Pearls, players can also enjoy an increased chance at rare loot, boosting overall minigame rewards by approximately 7%.
Additional quality-of-life updates include the ability to enter and leave the minigame freely, provided there are 100 or more players inside. Players can now enjoy full XP when using cells on full HP barriers, and the starting altars provide a medium cell, reducing RNG-related game losses. To top it off, the Colossal Pouch now scales with your crafting level, making it accessible to players of all skill levels.
Bug Report: Ammo Deletion and the Quiver Glitch
In unfortunate news, a bug causing players to lose their ammo has been making the rounds. Discovered by popular OSRS content creator TastyLife, this bug deletes the contents of the equipped ammo slot when specific actions are taken. TastyLife initially reported losing a single Dragon Javelin, but others, such as player Kirby, tested it and lost over 12 million RS GP worth of Dragon Arrows due to the glitch.
Fortunately, Jagex responded swiftly to resolve the issue. However, this bug served as a reminder to players to be cautious and report any unexpected inventory changes immediately. Thankfully, the issue has since been patched, but players are urged to stay vigilant for any unexpected inventory behavior in the future.
Community Spotlight: OSRS Chronicles and Art by Falco AJ
In lighter news, OSRS Chronicles has released new artwork celebrating the achievements of RuneScape players. Their latest addition, crafted by artist Falco AJ, features striking posters that capture the thrill of defeating iconic bosses like the Abyssal Sire and Kraken. For players interested in collecting OSRS-themed art, Chronicles is hosting its first Black Friday sale, offering discounts on posters, desk mats, and raid-themed artwork. Whether it’s a reminder of your triumph over a tough boss or just an impressive piece for your wall, these items support the artists and add to your OSRS memorabilia.
Channel Update and Upcoming Content
The OSRS Chronicles team is shifting its upload schedule to focus on more high-quality, weekly episodes rather than their Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule. This move aims to give the team additional time to source the best OSRS stories and highlight community-driven content. Fans can look forward to even more polished episodes, featuring in-game events, new content analysis, and player highlights.
