Top 10 Easiest Pets to Grind for in OSRS 2024

Sep-25-2024 PST

In today’s article, we’re diving into one of the most exciting aspects of the game: pet hunting! As most of you know, OSRS is as much about flexing your achievements as it is about progressing your account. Whether it’s showing off your top-tier gear, insane boss kill counts or a lineup of rare pets, players love to compare their accomplishments. Today, I’ll guide you through the top 10 easiest pets to grind for, so you can start experiencing that sweet dopamine rush that comes with adding pets to your collection.

Now, let’s get to the pets!

10. King Black Dragon (KBD)

We’re starting with a boss that may raise some eyebrows, but trust me, it’s only going to get better from here. The King Black Dragon (KBD) is one of the oldest bosses in the game, and while it’s not technically a Wilderness boss, you do have to navigate through some dangerous areas to reach its lair. Watch out for player killers (PKers) near the Lava Maze or the Obelisk, but once you’re in the lair, KBD is one of the easier bosses to grind for.

Recommended Setup:

  • Dragon Hunter Crossbow with Diamond Bolts

  • Necklace of Anguish

  • Dragonfire Ward

The KBD pet has a drop rate of 1 in 3,000, and you can expect to kill between 25 to 40 per hour depending on your RNG with bolt effects and whether or not you’re on a Slayer task. If you get lucky enough to snag the KBD pet, you’ll be adding one of the game’s most nostalgic pets to your collection.

9. Dagannoth Rex

Coming in at number nine, we have the Dagannoth Rex, one of the easiest Dagannoth Kings to slay. This boss is popular among early-game Ironmen and mid-level players because it can be tackled solo with minimal risk. As long as you can safely reach the corner of the Dagannoth Kings' lair, the fight is straightforward.

Recommended Setup:

  • Magic weapon (Trident of the Seas/Swamp or Iban’s Staff)

  • Tank armor to mitigate spinolyps’ damage

With a 1 in 5,000 pet drop rate, Rex can be a longer grind compared to KBD. However, if you’re on a Dagannoth Slayer task, it’s a great way to work towards a pet while making some extra GP from drops. Rex’s relatively slow spawn time of 1.5 minutes means you can expect between 20-30 kills per hour.

8. Rock Golem, Heron, and Beaver

These three pets share the number eight spot because they’re all obtained through gathering skills: Mining, Fishing, and Woodcutting, respectively. The drop rates for these pets are notoriously low, making them more difficult to obtain, but the reason they’re on this list is due to how AFK these activities can be.

AFK Methods:

  • Mining: Motherlode Mine

  • Fishing: Barbarian Fishing or Minnows

  • Woodcutting: Redwoods or Yew Trees

While the drop rate is tough (1 in 300,000 for these pets at lower levels), if you’re going for 99 in any of these skills, you might get lucky. The key here is to enjoy the AFK grind while doing other things, like watching a movie or working on another project.

7. Giant Mole

Ah, the Giant Mole – this boss has a special place in my heart because it’s where I started my pet-hunting journey. The Mole pet has a 1 in 3,000 drop rate, making it a relatively easy pet to grind for, especially with the right setup.

Requirements:

  • Falador Hard Diary (to track the Mole)

  • Fally Shield 3 or 4

Recommended Gear:

  • Twisted Bow

  • Dragon Warhammer

  • High-tier Ranged/Melee gear

Depending on your setup, you can expect 40-90 kills per hour, and with its humble drop rate, you’ll have a solid chance of bagging the Mole pet during your grind. The loot isn’t bad either, with noted drops that will add up to a decent GP.

6. Kraken

Kraken takes the number six spot as one of the most AFKable bosses in the game. With a 1 in 3,000 pet drop rate, Kraken is also a solid moneymaker, especially for Ironmen needing supplies like Raw Shark and Runite Bars.

Recommended Setup:

  • Offensive Magic gear (Trident of the Seas/Swamp)

  • Defensive gear to avoid taking chip damage

While Kraken doesn’t pose much danger, it can hit in the 20s, so keep an eye on your health. You can expect to AFK this boss for hours, making it perfect for multi-tasking while working towards your pet.

5. Skotizo

Skotizo enters the top five with a great drop rate of 1 in 65 for the pet. However, the catch here is that you need Dark Totems to fight Skotizo, which can slow down your grind.

Totem Pieces:

  • Dark Totem Top, Middle, and Base, which are obtained from monsters in the Catacombs of Kourend

While the fight itself is easy, assembling the totems can take some time. However, Skotizo always drops a Hard Clue Scroll and has a chance to drop an Elite Clue, so you can double up on your rewards while hunting for the pet.

4. Sarachnis

Sarachnis is a spider boss found in the Forthos Dungeon and is relatively new to the game. The introduction of Arclight Boots has made this grind even easier, as they negate the effect of the spider’s webs, allowing you to AFK Sarachnis almost completely.

Recommended Setup:

  • Blood Barrage/Blood Blitz for healing

  • High-tier Magic or Melee gear

Sarachnis has a drop rate of 1 in 3,000 for its pet, and with an average of 60-70 kills per hour, this grind can be fast and rewarding.

3. Chaos Elemental

One of the first pets introduced to the game, Chaos Elemental has a 1 in 300 drop rate, making it one of the quickest boss pets to obtain. However, you’ll need to be cautious while grinding in deep Wilderness, as PKers are always lurking.

Recommended Setup:

  • Wilderness gear (Crossbow/Webweaver Bow)

While the grind can be dangerous, Chaos Elemental’s high drop rate makes it worth the risk. Alternatively, you can fight the Chaos Fanatic, which has a 1 in 1,000 chance of dropping the pet.

2. Chompy Chick

The Chompy Chick pet is technically one of the fastest pets to obtain, but it does require the completion of the Western Provinces Elite Diary, which involves getting 1,000 Chompy kills.

Once you meet this requirement, the pet has a drop rate of 1 in 500, and with the diary’s perk of double Chompy spawns, you can speed up the grind significantly. You’ll get four rolls for the pet each time you spawn Chompies, making this a relatively quick grind once you start.

1. Vorki (Vorkath)

Topping our list is Vorki, the Vorkath pet. With a 1 in 3,000 drop rate, this grind is made easier with efficient gear and strategy. Vorkath is a profitable boss, which means you will earn a lot of OSRS gold when hunting this dragon pet.

Recommended Setup:

  • Dragon Hunter Lance

  • Ranged/Melee setup with anti-venom and prayer potions

Vorkath is fast-paced and will test your abilities, but with practice, you’ll be able to grind efficiently for both GP and your new Vorki pet.

And that wraps up my list of the top 10 easiest pets to grind for in OSRS! I hope you found this article helpful, and if you did, let me know in the comments which pet is your favorite and why!
