Quick Guide to Forestry in Old School RS (OSRS)

Aug-08-2024 PST

Forestry in Old School RS (OSRS) has been a point of contention within the community since its introduction. While some players enjoy the collaborative and social aspects it brings to woodcutting, others have expressed frustration over certain mechanics and changes. This guide aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Forestry, including the basics, how to get started, and detailed information about the various events and rewards.

Getting Started with Forestry

What is Forestry?

Forestry is an activity that integrates with the existing woodcutting skill, introducing events and rewards that encourage cooperative gameplay. The essence of Forestry is to make woodcutting a more social and engaging experience, rewarding players for working together.

Starting Forestry:

To begin, you need to locate the Friendly Forester, who can be found in Draynor Village, Taverley, and just south of the bank in Seers' Village. Interact with him to access his shop and purchase a Forestry Kit. This kit is essential as it stores various Forestry-related items, including OSRS gold, leaves, bark, rations, and event-specific rewards.

Forestry Kit:

The Forestry Kit is crucial for managing your inventory efficiently while participating in Forestry activities. It stores:

  • Leaves: Gathered from cutting different types of trees.

  • Secur: Crafted from Forestry activities, distinct from farming secateurs.

  • Rations: Made from combining food with leaves, used to replenish run energy.

  • Bark: Obtained from events, used for purchasing rewards in the Forestry shop.

Choosing the Right World:

Forestry is best experienced in Forestry worlds, which are designated servers where players gather to cut trees together. Having at least ten people cutting the same tree provides a +10 woodcutting boost, significantly enhancing your efficiency.

Tree Mechanics:

Trees in Forestry have altered spawn and despawn timers to accommodate the collaborative gameplay. For instance:

  • Oak trees last 27 seconds and respawn after 8 seconds.

  • Magic trees last 3 minutes and 54 seconds, respawning after 2 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use the Tree Count plugin on Runelite to see how many players are on a tree. This helps ensure you get the maximum woodcutting boost.

  • Be mindful of event spawn mechanics. If an event is active within a 20-tile radius, another event will not spawn nearby.

Forestry Events

Events are a central part of Forestry, offering various activities and rewards. Participating in events requires you to be actively woodcutting in the vicinity when they occur.

Event Participation:

To be eligible for event rewards, you must be cutting trees in the area when the event starts. Simply hopping worlds or moving to an event location without woodcutting will disqualify you from receiving full rewards.

Common Events:

1. Beehive Event:

        • How to Participate: When the Beekeeper appears, you'll see an unfinished beehive. Add logs to the beehive to fill a progress bar.

        • Rewards: You receive woodcutting and construction XP for each log added, along with bark. There is also a chance to obtain sturdy beehive parts for building a beehive in your Player-Owned House (POH).

2. Enchantment Ritual:

        • How to Participate: A Dryad appears with colored shapes on the ground. Identify the odd one out based on color and shape, and stand on it until the progress bar fills.

        • Rewards: Participation grants woodcutting XP and bark.

3. Nature Offering:

        • How to Participate: Use your secateurs to cut plants that appear around the trees. Collect offerings and deposit them in the central area.

        • Rewards: Offers woodcutting XP and bark, with a chance to receive additional nature-themed rewards.

Forestry offers various rewards and upgrades purchasable with bark, obtained from participating in events.
