Old School RS: Potion Brewing & Dragon Slaying in Varlamore
Oct-04-2024 PSTLet me ask you a question: where can you mix potions in an alchemy lab, solve a murder mystery in an island manor, and fight a new boss? That’s right! You can experience all this in Yanille—wait, scratch that. It’s not Yanille; it’s Vmore, the newest and most exciting expansion in Old School RS’s latest update, The Rising Darkness.
Now, let’s dive into everything this new update has to offer, from quests and skilling to boss fights and exploration!
What is Vmore: The Rising Darkness?
With The Rising Darkness, Vmore has expanded far beyond its original boundaries. This massive new area offers a wide variety of content for every type of player, including:
• New quests to further your storyline
• Skilling activities to advance your levels
• New bosses to challenge your combat prowess
• Exploration opportunities to uncover hidden secrets
The Vmore update adds entirely new locations, including Aldarin, a sunny island known for its picturesque vineyards and (surprise!) murder mysteries; Dark Frost Mountain, a menacing and cold region filled with icy dangers; and the Kha’Toa Gorge, a mysterious new area with yet-to-be-discovered secrets. It’s an adventurer’s paradise with endless possibilities.
First Quest: Heart of Darkness
Your first stop in Vmore is the Heart of Darkness quest, which picks up the storyline from Children of the Sun and Twilight’s Promise. The tone of this quest is much darker as you uncover the mysteries surrounding the Sect of Ranu and the Twilight Emissaries. What are they up to? You’ll have to venture into the Twilight Temple to find out—and survive the dangers along the way.
Requirements:
• Combat level of at least 65
• Stats specific to the quest (listed in-game)
Upon completing Heart of Darkness, you’ll unlock the Tapoi Ruins, an ice-themed Slayer dungeon home to both familiar Slayer monsters and new, more powerful enemies. Among these new creatures is the Frost Nagwa, which drops the new Glacial Tatle, a crush weapon with a unique two-hit attack. This weapon will be a prized item for anyone seeking an upgrade to their combat gear.
And what’s behind the giant door in the dungeon? Well, that’s for you to discover, but rumors point to a new boss fight, possibly Salarin the Twisted, now a frozen version of his former self!
Murder Mystery: Death on the Isle
Next up is the quest Death on the Isle, located on the idyllic island of Aldarin. Though known for its beautiful vineyards and serene beaches, Aldarin hides a dark secret—there’s been a murder at the island’s manor! It’s your job to solve this mystery by collecting clues, interrogating suspects, and uncovering the truth.
Requirements:
• Completion of Children of the Sun
• Various stats to begin the quest (check in-game)
Will you be able to figure out who committed the crime, or will the killer continue to elude capture? This murder mystery offers an exciting, interactive way to experience Vmore’s storytelling at its finest.
Skilling in Vmore: Master Mixology
Are you a fan of Herblore? Vmore introduces a new mini-game called Mixology, set on the island of Aldarin. This skilling activity focuses on potion-making, offering a unique way to earn Herblore experience and obtain valuable rewards.
Requirements:
• Level 60 Herblore to participate
In this mini-game, you’ll process various herbs into three types of pastes—Mox, Ega, and Lye—which are then used to fulfill potion orders. The process is more complex than traditional Herblore, requiring you to finish potions using one of three methods: homogenizing, crystallizing, or concentrating. While the experience per hour may be slower than regular Herblore, you’ll earn more XP per herb, making this mini-game a lucrative option for those looking to train their Herblore skills.
Rewards:
• Reagent Pouch: Holds up to 26 of every secondary ingredient
• Alchemist’s Outfit: Includes Prescription Goggles, which have a chance to save secondary ingredients
• Potion Storage Device: Organize and store your potions more efficiently at the bank
• Pre-OT Device: Allows you to drink multiple potions at once, in your chosen order
These rewards are perfect for players who love optimizing their inventories and maximizing efficiency in both combat and skilling.
The New Boss: Huey (That’s Not Its Real Name)
Finally, it’s time to talk about Huey—an ancient dragon-snake-bird hybrid awakened from its slumber beneath Dark Frost Mountain. Officially known as H’Ka The Serpent, this powerful boss is not happy about being disturbed, and she’s ready to make you pay for it.
The Fight:
The battle takes place in two phases:
1. Phase One: Ascend the mountain while attacking various serpent body parts jutting out from the cliffs. Dodge attacks, avoid hazards and deal as much damage as possible.
2. Phase Two: At the mountain’s peak, you’ll face Huey directly. In this intense showdown, you’ll need to master dodging her powerful attacks while dealing consistent damage to take her down.
While Huey can be defeated solo, it’s strongly recommended to bring a team for the best chances of success.
Rewards:
• Tome of Earth: Adds 10% damage to Earth spells and provides infinite Earth runes when charged with Soiled Pages.
• Dragon Hunter Wand: Completes the Dragon Bane weapon set for mages, offering 10% increased magic damage and 20% more damage against dragons.
• H’Ka Hide Armor: Ranged gear with high magic defense and prayer bonuses, perfect for range-focused players.
One particularly exciting reward is the Prayer Regeneration Potion, crafted using a rare herb dropped by Huey. This potion restores 66 prayer points over 8 minutes, making it one of the most powerful prayer-restoring items in the game.
New Agility Course: The Colossal Worm Ruins
If you’re in the mood for a more laid-back adventure, the Colossal Worm Ruins on the southern tip of the Avium Savannah has just been updated with a new agility course. Run by an anteater named Worm Tongue (no, really), this agility course lets you navigate a massive archaeological site filled with bones and fossils.
Requirements:
• Level 50 Agility to start, with an advanced course unlocking at level 62.
As you explore, you’ll help Worm Tongue by collecting termites, which can be exchanged for valuable rewards, including Amalay Crystals used to make stamina potions. There’s also a Colossal Worm Agility Course Teleport to make future visits more convenient.
For the fashion-savvy adventurer, you can also unlock the Vorain Colors, a graceful outfit recolor exclusive to this course.
Conclusion
With so much to do and discover in Vmore: The Rising Darkness, this update is packed with exciting content for all types of RuneScape players. Whether you're solving murder mysteries, mastering new skills, or taking on powerful bosses, Vmore has something for everyone.
