Maximizing Your Profits with Efficient Farming Runs in OSRS

Sep-21-2024 PST

Today I’m diving into a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of Old School RS (OSRS) – farming runs. If you're like me, you might sometimes neglect your farming tasks and birdhouse runs, but trust me, these activities can yield significant profits and valuable resources over time. Let me walk you through my new and improved farming routine that’s been quite lucrative.

The Setup: Why Farming Matters

Before we jump into the specifics of the run, let’s discuss why farming is so essential. Farming is a skill that not only provides resources for other skills but also offers steady income if done efficiently. With herbs being a major part of the process, they can be used for making potions in Herblore or sold for profit. Plus, it's a low-effort, high-reward activity that complements more intensive training sessions.

The Farming Run Breakdown

Here’s a step-by-step guide to my current farming run, designed to maximize efficiency and profit:

1. Camelot Patch

The first stop is the Camelot patch. To get there quickly, you should use a Camelot Teleport. If you have completed the Camelot Diary, you can use this teleport repeatedly, which saves valuable time. This patch is one of the easiest to access and is a great starting point for any farming run.

2. Ardougne Patch

Next, I head over to the Ardougne patch. To get there efficiently, you can use the Ardougne Teleport if you’ve completed the relevant diary tasks. For those who have only completed the medium diary, it’s still quite convenient. The Ardougne patch is particularly useful for its proximity to the city, making it a quick stop.

3. Falador Patch

After Ardougne, I teleport to Falador. This patch is convenient because the teleportation takes you directly to the patch, reducing travel time. Falador’s patch is strategically placed to fit well into the run sequence, making the whole process more fluid.

4. Ectofuntus Patch

From Falador, I head to the Ectofuntus patch. This teleport is available if you have access to the Ectophial, which is obtained through the Ghosts Ahoy quest. The Ectofuntus patch is a bit out of the way but is worth including for the additional herb yield.

5. Player-Owned House Patch

Next up, I teleport to my Player-Owned House (POH). If you’ve completed the relevant quest to unlock this patch, you can access it quickly. The POH patch is very close to the house, so it doesn’t require much extra travel. It’s an excellent spot to add to your run for more herbs.

6. Hunter Guild Patch

Using a Hunter's Whistle, I teleport to the Hunter Guild. This teleport is highly efficient as it places you right next to the farming patch, reducing the time spent running between locations. The patch here is easily accessible and can be a quick addition to your run.

7. Farming Guild Patch

Next, I teleport to the Farming Guild. This patch is quite valuable as it offers a disease-free zone, ensuring that your crops are protected. It's also a great place to gather additional resources like white berries and dragon fruit, which can add to your profits.

8. Hosidius Patch

Finally, I make my way to the Hosidius patch. This is a solid spot to end your run because it’s conveniently located, and the patch is visible from the teleport location. The Hosidius patch is a key part of the run as it’s in a disease-free area, which makes it reliable.

Evaluating the Profit

In a typical farming run, if you follow the steps outlined above, you can expect a run to take around 7 minutes. This includes some time for picking herbs and teleporting between locations. In terms of profit, here's a breakdown of what you can expect:

  • Herb Yield: Depending on the patches used and the herbs harvested, you can make approximately 681k GP in 7 minutes.

  • Additional Profits: Including items like white berries and dragon fruit, you can add an extra 50k to 70k GP to your total earnings.

Remember, the seeds used for planting are often obtained from Slayer tasks, so they don't add additional costs to your farming run. The actual profit might vary depending on market prices, so always check current prices on the Grand Exchange before selling your herbs.

Final Thoughts

This farming run strategy is designed to be efficient while maximizing your profits. By focusing on quick teleports and key patches, you can complete a run in under 10 minutes and make a significant amount of OSRS gold. The additional herbs and resources can greatly benefit your Herblore skill or be sold for profit.

If you're new to farming or looking to optimize your routine, give this method a try. It’s straightforward, and with a little practice, you’ll be able to incorporate it seamlessly into your OSRS gameplay.
