Guide to Soloing Wilderness Bosses in OSRS

Nov-04-2024 PST
Today, we're diving into the Wilderness (Wiy) and tackling some solo versions of the reworked bosses: Artio, Calvar'ion, and Spindel. These bosses provide excellent GP-per-hour potential, chances at rare and expensive uniques, and cute pets that make these encounters well worth your time. In this article, I'll cover everything from preparation to survival tips, so let's get into it!

Introduction to Wilderness Solo Bosses

Alongside the reworks, we received solo instances of each boss in the form of Artio (Bear), Calvar'ion (Skeleton), and Spindel (Spider). These encounters were designed to be relatively simple and accessible for players who want to avoid PvP as much as possible. Still, the Wilderness is a dangerous place, and you may run into player killers (PKers). Let's discuss how to stay safe and maximize your efficiency.

Requirements and Recommendations

1. Medium Wilderness Diary: Completion of the medium Wilderness diary is required to access the solo versions of these bosses. This diary requirement helps deter bot farming and ensures a more player-focused experience.

2. Ancient Spellbook (Optional): For Artio, completing Desert Treasure I for access to the Ancient Spellbook will make the fight significantly easier, as we'll be using Ice spells to freeze and control the bear.

3. Recommended Stats:

Combat Skills: Minimum level 70 in melee, ranged, and magic.

        • Magic: Level 70 for Ice Burst (higher magic levels will increase your success rate with freezing).

        • Prayer: Level 74 to activate Rigour (if unlocked) for increased damage.

        • Agility: A decent Agility level to conserve run energy is also helpful.

4. Slayer Tasks (Optional): For those looking to get additional Slayer XP, you can kill Artio on bear tasks, Calvar'ion on skeleton tasks, and Spindel on spider tasks. If you've unlocked Like a Boss, high-level Slayer masters can assign these bosses for extra Slayer experience.

5. Entry Fees and KC Requirement: Each boss instance costs 50k GP to enter, and you'll need 20 kill count (KC) per boss to check if anyone else is already inside before entering.

Essential Plugins for Safety

1. Wilderness Player Alarm: This plugin flashes your screen if another player enters your field of vision, giving you precious seconds to click your teleport.

2. Wilderness Lines: This plugin highlights the multi-combat zones, areas beyond level 20 Wilderness, and the 30-line for teleporting (if you're using a Royal Seed Pod or other teleport restricted to level 30 or lower). Set this to the 20-line if you're using teleport tabs or lower-level Wilderness teleports.

3. Alt Account for Early Warning (Optional): For serious pet hunters or high-value loot farmers, consider placing an alt account outside the boss cave with Wilderness Player Alarm active. This can serve as an early warning system.

Artio Guide

Artio, the baby version of Callisto, is a relatively straightforward fight once you're familiar with her mechanics.

Minimum Gear

    • Ranged Setup: Dragon crossbow with Ruby and Diamond bolts, Black d'hide gear, Amulet of Glory, and Ava's assembler.

    • Inventory: Teleports, looting bags, blighted magic sacs, and a mix of food and potions.

Optimal Setup

    • Weapon: Webweaver Bow

    • Gear: Necklace of Anguish, Masori top, and blessed d'hide boots.

    • Inventory: Similar to a minimum, but upgrade to blighted super restores and blighted anglerfish if possible for extra healing.

Getting to Artio

Teleport to the Ferox Enclave, run north to the graveyard and head west to the Hunter's End entrance. Right-click to check if the cave is empty before entering.

Fight Mechanics

1. Freezing: As soon as you enter, use an Ice spell to freeze Artio. Stay at a safe distance to avoid her melee attacks. When she starts moving, reapply Ice Burst or Ice Barrage as needed.

2. Prayer Switching: Artio uses both ranged and magic attacks. If you see a white spell projectile, switch to Protect from Magic before it reaches you to avoid a knockback and heavy damage. When she's frozen, keep Protect from Missiles active.

3. Bear Traps: At 66% and 33% health, Artio will spawn traps around the arena. Avoid stepping on these, as they deal up to 15 damage.

Loot and GP per Hour

On average, Artio drops 30-40k GP worth of loot, which translates to up to 2 million GP per hour depending on speed and interruptions. The main rare drop to look for is the Voidwaker Hilt (worth around 23 million GP) and the Callisto Cub pet (1/2800 drop rate).

Calvar'ion Guide

Calvar'ion, the solo version of Venenatis, is a melee-based boss with unique mechanics that make for an enjoyable encounter.

Minimum Gear

    • Melee Setup: Ursine Chainmace, Salve amulet (e), Fire cape, and Barrows gloves.

    • Inventory: Teleports, boosting potions, food, and blighted supplies.

Optimal Setup

    • Weapons: Upgraded to Berserker ring, Torva legs, and a better cape if possible.

    • Inventory: Same as above with high-quality supplies.

Getting to Calvar'ion

Teleport to Ferox Enclave, then head northeast to the entrance of the lair in the graveyard. Peek before entering.

Fight Mechanics

1. Lightning: Calvar'ion summons lightning strikes that deal AoE damage in a 3x3 area. Move out of the way as soon as it appears.

2. Shield Bash: When Calvar'ion raises his shield, move two tiles away. Failing to do so results in a stun and up to 35 damage.

3. Hellhound Summon: At 50% health, Calvar'ion summons two Hellhounds. These must be defeated before you can damage Calvar'ion again.

Loot and GP per Hour

Calvar'ion can yield up to 1.8 million GP per hour. Notable drops include the Skull of Vet'ion and the Skeleton Hellhound pet (also 1/2800 chance).

Spindel Guide

Spindel is the solo variant of Venanatis, and like her counterparts, she offers straightforward mechanics for quick kills.

Minimum Gear

    • Ranged Setup: Crossbow, dragon bolts, standard ranged gear.

    • Inventory: Similar to Artio's setup, focusing on teleports and ranged boosts.

Fight Mechanics

1. Web Attack: Watch out for web-based attacks that slow your movement and deal damage.

2. Spiderlings: At 50% health, Spindel summons spiderlings that deal minor damage but can overwhelm you. Dispose of them quickly to continue the fight.

GP and Rare Drops

Spindel has a drop table similar to Venanatis, making her profitable and an attractive boss for pet hunters.

Conclusion

The Wilderness bosses are ideal for players looking to earn some decent OSRS gold, rare uniques, and unique pets in OSRS. Whether you're a new player or a seasoned PK veteran, these solo bosses offer a fun and efficient method of earning while dodging PKers. With the right setup, plugins, and a bit of luck, you can make the most of these encounters.
